How to Make Your (Old or New) Windows Last

You want your windows to stand the test of time, like any other part of your home because once there’s a small problem, they have a way of turning into bigger problems. To replace or repair your windows can be an expensive exercise, so we recommend taking every precaution to ensure your windows last. There’s a lot you can do to make your windows last a long time, such as:

Seals

Seals around your window help ensure no drafts and water leaks enter from the outside, and help contain warmth on the inside. Make sure any membranes and flashings are tightly sealed to prevent air and water leaks. Fibreglass or foam insulation are good solutions to fill any air gaps.

Double Glaze

The modern standard for glazing is double or triple paned windows, because they provide much better insulation. Double glazing can be retrofitted to your existing windows to help extend their life.

Check & Check Again

You should regularly check your windows to ensure they are structurally sound and there is no accumulation of grime or mould around the edges. This can build up quickly and accelerate timber windows into rotting. If you start to notice any problems, address them quickly so they don’t turn into bigger problems (and expenses).

Thermoglaz specialise in double glazing windows within the Christchurch and greater Canterbury areas. We can work with your existing window frames (wooden or aluminium), or fit brand new frames that look great and provide your home greater efficiency and warmth.
